Throughout her life, Paula Jasmine James lived in many different cities around the world. After Covid, PJJ moved to Nashville to reconnect with her love for writing music. She stayed there with her dear friend who created the environment where she set herself a goal: to write 50 songs in 60 days. The target was almost achieved (almost as not all of the songs ever got finished) and the 11 tracks that we find on her new album "Unexpected" are a result of this.

Whether behind the piano or in collaboration with her long-time creative partner Jan Freicher, Paula writes about what it means to be human: our fears, insecurities, and the strength we find when we face them.
Paula's creative life extends well beyond the studio. At home in Bath, UK, she balances her artistry with her love of horses, dogs and teaching, often drawing strength and clarity from time spent riding or walking in the countryside. Through all of this, Paula’s music remains what it has always been: a call to empathy, a celebration of vulnerability, and an invitation to connect.
Born in Gdańsk, Poland, Paula’s musical roots go deep. She was awarded a scholarship to study music at just eight years old, she played flute and the piano and attended vocal classes with one of the best Polish jazz vocalists - Anna Serafinska. Later, Paula studied an undergrad as a singer training at the Jazz Music Academy in Katowice before moving to Bath, UK, in 2006. Bath Spa University became her artistic home, where she immersed herself in songwriting and was mentored by All About Eve’s Julianne Regan. It was Regan who first encouraged Paula to share her hauntingly beautiful compositions with the world.
But more than genre, what defines her work is authenticity—her belief that only by confronting our rawest emotions can we move forward as people.
